WTC Pilot Cars

Our Services

Pilot Car Driver Verification

We vet, credential, and verify pilot car drivers so shippers and carriers know exactly who is on the route. Verification at WTC is a working process, not a checkbox.

State certification verified at the source

A growing list of states and provinces require formal pilot car certification, each with its own curriculum and renewal cycle. We verify every certification directly with the issuing training provider or state agency, not just by looking at the card.

Insurance confirmed in writing

Several states require pilot car operators to carry their own coverage. We confirm policies meet both the jurisdictional minimum and our internal standard, with the carrier named as additional insured where appropriate.

Equipment checked for the work

Vehicle condition, warning lights, signage, CB radios, traffic cones, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and high pole construction are all reviewed against the requirements of the route, not just the calendar.

Judgment and teamwork vetted by referrals

There is no federal CDL equivalent for pilot car work. We weigh referrals from carriers, drivers, and other operators heavily, and we start newer drivers in the chase position before advancing them to high pole and steerperson roles.

Why verification matters on every load

A strong pilot car operator keeps a load moving and out of trouble. A weak one creates risk that the carrier eventually pays for, whether through fines, delays, or worse. We apply the same scrutiny to every operator that a carrier would apply to any other safety sensitive role on their team.

Forged certification cards do appear in the field. Insurance certificates expire. Equipment that was fine last year may no longer meet a state's current requirements. Our process catches these issues before a driver is dispatched, not after.

What every assignment confirms

  • Active training verified for every state on the route
  • Current insurance on file with named additional insureds
  • Vehicle and equipment match the role: chase, lead, or high pole
  • Pre-trip briefing acknowledged before dispatch
  • Post-trip review and driver feedback captured for the file
